Fans of Slowhand will be delighted to learn that the documentary written and produced by Stephen "Scooter" Weintraub and broadcast on American television in 1995 (which includes an interview carried out by Martin Scorsese in which Eric Clapton professes his love for the blues and the great artists of the genre) has been rereleased, along with its soundtrack Nothing But The Blues. Here, we see the British guitarist take to the stage at the Fillmore in San Francisco during the autumn of 1994. He performs his 12th studio album From the Cradle, a pure blues masterpiece that he released in September that same year, following the success of Unplugged (1992). As is often the case with Eric Clapton, the live version differs greatly from the version recorded at Olympic Studios in London, though this was also recorded live. This album also includes a number of unreleased tracks: Blues All Day Long by Jimmy Rogers and Malted Milk by Robert Johnson, as well as the blues classics Every Day I Have The Blues and Forty-Four. The audio tracks from the live performances from the 8th and 9th of November 1994 were previously leaked without permission, so this album is a much more official digital release. Plus, it’s in high definition! © Charlotte Saintoin/Qobuz

J.J. Cale: Big Brother o' Blues

More than eight years after his death, there is still no getting away from the vital wellspring of music that is the works of J.J. Cale. With his unique alloy of blues, folk, country and jazz, the man worshipped by Clapton, who lived for a while in a trailer, is still one of rock's most influential hermits.

Pavement's Not-So-Secret Genre-Making History

Thirty years ago, Pavement set a road map for '90s indie rock—lo-fi, whip-smart, Gen-X cynical—with their career-defining Slanted and Enchanted. (And yes, the band came to define the term "slacker rock.") You can still hear their influence on artists like Courtney Barnett, Deerhunter, Beabadoobee, Parquet Courts, Kiwi Jr., and many more. And, of course, they famously, majorly inspired Blur's 1997 self-titled album, in effect changing the face of Brit-pop without even meaning to. As Pavement continues on their first tour since 2010, here's a look back at the band's history through their epochal records.

Elvis, Still The King?

Fifty-five years after his death, Elvis Presley remains an unparalleled trailblazer. However, despite his essential 1954-1955 sessions for the Sun label still standing as the cornerstone of rock’n’roll, the King’s aura is beginning to fade amongst today’s youth, who now tend to favour The Beatles, The Stones and The Beach Boys…
