Santa has a society address book that would turn Eddie Barclay green with envy. And to save this popular holiday from the health and socio-economic crises of 2020, he has decided to call in his best friend, the only person who could rescue the magic of Christmas: Mariah Carey. This is the starting point of this show directed by Roman Coppola (collaborator of Wes Anderson), and broadcast exclusively on Apple TV. In addition to Mariah Carey, the man in red sets down his sack and invites stars as prestigious as Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, who we will have the pleasure of hearing in Oh Santa! True, bells, angelic choirs, syrupy strings and other jingles all form part of the paraphernalia of this collection of sugary treats, but the goal is also to blow the dust off the typical Christmas song somewhat. Some will be surprised by the soul colour of When Christmas Comes, the rhythmic pop Of Here comes Santa Claus (a duet with Snoop Dogg), or the cover of a famous tune from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker (Sugar Plum Fairy) in a spirit reminiscent of a Danny Elfman soundtrack for a Tim Burton film. Everyone will enjoy the cover of the standard Sleigh Ride, in which Mariah shares heartfelt joy on the high, high notes - possibly the only ultra-sound capable of communicating with Santa Claus in mid-flight? ©Nicolas Magenham / Qobuz
