How do you combine softness and strength? Jade Bird has the ability to combine these two seemingly contradictory characteristics with an exceptional voice. This impressive medium is also used to express her anger, as in My Motto, a song built in crescendo, in which she expresses her desire to protect herself from the feeling of unrequited love. Her songs - and general attitude - are dictated by simplicity, candor and authenticity that are in perfect harmony with the clarity of her voice. She observes the world and her contemporaries as they are, in rock'n' roll songs (the hits Uh Huh and Lottery) or those a little more intimate (Does Anybody Know?). Some are already comparing her to Patti Smith. It would probably be a little premature to go in this direction, but the young Briton is already offering us an energetic and authentic first album. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
