The collapse of communism and the subsequent fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th, 1989, completely surprised Wolf Biermann, and he immediately wrote down his thoughts in songs after the unbelievable finally had happened. On December 1st, 1989, he gave his first concert in East Germany after 13 long years, and this album presents these new songs he performed at this event in studio versions. There is the sharp "Ballade von den Verdorbenen Greisen" (Ballad of the Rotten Seniles), a sarcastic look at the ancien régime of the GDR just ousted, and the hymnal "Ballade Vom Gut Kirschenessen" commemorating his old friend, the dissident Robert Havemann, and in between there are songs of the usual Biermann wit and shrewdness reflecting on the historical changes of 1989 in East Germany.
