A group formed in 2008 by known entities of the indie scene of Bergen, Norway, Megaphonic Thrift were still affectionately referred to as a supergroup by the arrival of their fourth LP, Få Meg Til Verden i Tide, their first in their native language. It follows their Spellemann Award winner (Best Indie Album) Sun Stare Sound by less than two years. Known by this time as a band that likes to tweak its sound from record to record -- well, from noise pop to noisier pop to a more coherent kind of crunchy dream pop -- Megaphonic Thrift drift into a more dramatic version of lush noise here that's tempered somewhat by twinkly synths and their ever-melodic approach. It's more experimental in nature, though, with sound exploration sometimes edging out coherent pop forms or even lyrics. In fact, three of the seven tracks are essentially instrumentals, including the over 11-minute blend of post-rock and prog, "Den Evige Heten" ("The Eternal Truth"). Falling closer to noisy post-punk, "Hendene" has lead vocals shared by Richard Myklebust and Linn Frøkedal. The album seems to take a deep breath with the dreamier, more structured "Pilene" before diving into more metallic and percussive textures. Taken together, it's a challenging but engaging sonic trip with a gauzy through-line that nevertheless has a notable rock edge.
