For this 2nd album for her 100% roots side project, Norah Jones and her collaborators Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper tackle covers by Dolly Parton, Tom Petty and Paul Westerberg from The Replacements...

For Norah Jones, her music was never confined to just jazz. The New Yorker who grew up in Texas proved it with The Little Willies, but since 2008 has also been making folk and country music with Puss N Boots, the trio she started with Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper.

This album Sister is pure Americana, blending original compositions and 5 star covers (Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Wilco, George Jones), evidenced with No Fools, No Fun in 2014.

Six years later, the three cowgirls are back on the ranch for a second album which once again evokes tumbleweed, abandoned saloons and landscapes dotted with cacti. And like its predecessor, Sister mixes originals and covers, this time of Tom Petty (Angel Dream), Dolly Parton (The Grass Is Blue), Paul Westerberg (It’s A Wonderful Life) and Concrete Blonde (Joey).

Passing each other the mic depending on the song and keeping the simple formula of guitar/drums/bass, Norah, Sasha and Catherine’s refined album creates some nice moments of reflection and communion. An introspective ode to friendship where the egos are left at the door. Without rewriting the Americana rulebook, Puss N Boots offers a beautiful and sincere interpretation of it.

In 2016, Qobuz interviewed Norah Jones at the time of the release of her album Day Breaks. The American singer went into more detail about her relationship with jazz:
