Guitarist Charlie Hunter shares his version of the blues...

Charlier Hunter is more versatile than a Swiss Army Knife! Just look at his personal discography (more than 15 albums and counting!) as well as all the things he's done to help out his friends and his friends of friends (Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, D'Angelo, Frank Ocean, Snarky Puppy, Christian McBride, among others). You get the idea. He's especially favoured by fellow 6 string fanatics, but it's probably more accurate to talk of 7 strings, seeing as the Californian guitarist uses a 7 string on Everybody Has A Plan Until They Get Punched In The Mouth, which appeared in July. The album is an ode to the blues, and in the artist's own words: "my idea for this album was to make a genuinely improvised blues album, not a modern jazz record. I wanted to show my blues style above all." In this venture, he's held up by two veritable pillars of the New York underground scene: drummer Bobby Previte and Curtis Fowlkes, the ex-trombone player for the Lounge Lizards and the Jazz Passengers. In the end, their approach to the blues is like a musical uppercut, intense and electrifying.
