The long-awaited return of the riot grrrl trio

After a decade of silence, Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss are back with their brand of feminist punk-rock, a touch of riot grrrl following in the footsteps of Sonic Youth and The Runaways. With No Cities to Love, Sleater-Kinney prove that they are bigger, older and above all, more mature. If there is still the rage of their earlier days to be found in this their eighth studio album, it’s focused through the lens of a denser style and a richer, more eclectic sound.

This new style has much in common with Wire, or perhaps even Franz Ferdinand – that is to say, an evolved sort of indie rock. To celebrate their comeback, the band have roped in some of their friends to sing along to the album’s title track, giving us the star-studded video featuring the likes of Fred Armisen, Gerard Way, Brie Larson, Ellen Page, Natasha Lyonne, Andy Samberg, Connie Britton, Miranda July, Norman Reedus, Sarah Silverman, Evan Rachel Wood, J Mascis and Vanessa Bayer.
