Georgia Anne Muldrow is now signed to the Brainfeeder label, and it’s good fit for her. After the almost vintage Hip-Hop of A Thoughtiverse Unmarred (2015), she has covered her voice in love and empathy ("I’m on overload, in overdrive / I’m overwhelmed and overexcited / I’ve got that lifetime crush just for you") with some downtempo numbers. Her simple, direct flow takes on an R&B eloquence (Canadian Hillbilly) as she wears her heart on her sleeve. Could the presence of her husband Dedley Perkins have anything to do with it? Flying Lotus, the founder of the American label, is also on set. As they say, you get out what you put in, and Overload is a great addition to the discography of one of the most underrated Californian rappers of her generation. With its widely varied track lengths, this sixteenth album includes some fast and well-mixed groove (Blam), some tweaks of soul (Williehook), a nineties flavour with some slightly old-fashioned choruses (You Can Always Count On Me) and some pure Jazz arrangements (These Are The Things I Really Like About You).
