The Other People Place

Drexciya's James Stinson only recorded one album as the Other People Place, but it's one of the most beloved, sought-after releases associated with the mythical Detroit electro duo. In 2001, Lifestyles of the Laptop Café was released by Warp, which had previously issued Drexciya's The Journey Home EP in 1995. Veering from the themes of sci-fi and technology usually associated with Drexciya and related projects, the album's sparse tracks are surprisingly sentimental, expressing feelings of loneliness and yearning on songs like "You Said You Want Me." After Stinson's unexpected death in 2002 (exactly a year, to the day, after Lifestyles was released), Drexciya's legend continued to grow with each passing year, and the album became harder to find. Thanks to an online petition signed by over a thousand fans, Warp reissued the album in 2017.
