Little Kruta
Pop chamber orchestra Little Kruta puts a pristine acoustic spin on popular songs from multiple genres. Working with guest vocalists, the women's string-and-percussion ensemble covered a full album by thrash metal group Metallica for their first full-length release, 2019's Justice.
Formed by cellist/producer Kristine Kruta, Little Kruta's founding lineup also featured concertmistress Maria Im (violin), Katie Jacoby (violin), Chiara Fasi (violin), Molly Fletcher (violin), Laura Sacks (viola), Tia Allen (viola), Adi Meyerson (upright bass), and Rosie Slater (percussion). Among appearances on recordings by others, in early 2018 they issued a cover of James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" with vocalist Hannah Sumners. They followed it with the Visions EP later in the year. Using arrangements by Pierre Piscitelli, Little Kruta recorded their first album, a version of Metallica's iconic release …And Justice for All, at a Brooklyn church in the span of one day. Guests included jazz, pop, and soul singers Alita Moses, Camille Trust, Lauren Desberg, and Jenn Mundia, who were featured on two songs each. Justice arrived on Chesky Records in October 2019.
