Japanese pop group King & Prince shot to fame in 2018 when their debut single 'Cinderella Girl' sold more than half a million copies during its first week of release, an unprecedented amount even by J-pop standards. The group work under the guidance of one of Japan's biggest talent agents, Johnny and Associates, who have been responsible for launching the careers of some of Japan's most successful pop performers. Although the band were launched in the early part of 2018 their story goes back to 2015 when two bands Mr. King and Mr. Prince were formed in order to appear on 'Summer Event', a popular entertainment show on TV Asahi, one of Japan's premier variety channels. The popularity of the two bands prompted Johnny and Associates supremo Johnny Kitagawa to merge the two bands into one pop supergroup called King & Prince headed up by Mr. King frontman Sho Hirano. Since the launch of the group they have become Japan's highest grossing new artist with a sell-out national tour and successful singles sales earning them a double platinum accreditation.
