Johnny O. started his career as a freestyle artist, playing the kind of music that was popular in Latin clubs but never quite in the mainstream. Johnny O. still had a successful career in this circuit, releasing eight albums before 2001, when he released his greatest-hits album. He also became a respected radio host, playing freestyle music on a syndicated show out of Canada.
