ガブリエル・オラフス
Classical crossover pianist and composer Gabríel Ólafs was born In Reykjavík, Iceland on December 3, 1998. Influenced by classical music, film, fantasy, and Icelandic poetry, he is best-known for co-founding the Reykjavík Orkestra. He began playing the piano at the age of five and learned to play both classical and jazz music. At the age of 14, he composed his first song, “Absent Minded,” which led to signing a record deal with One Little Indian Records (now known as One Little Independent Records). His debut album, Absent Minded, was released in 2019 and became an international hit. The album’s “Staircase Sonata,” has been streamed more than 10 million times on social media platforms. His second album, Piano Works (2020), was another success and featured “Filma Solo.” After the release of a remixed version of his debut album – entitled Absent Minded Reworks – in 2020, Gabríel Ólafs signed with Decca Records in the US and released the album Solon Islandus in 2022. That same year, he co-founded the Reykjavík Orkestra, who have performed music for various television and film productions. Inspired by Viking melodies, his next album, Lullabies for Piano and Cello, was released in 2023.
