Bach, Beethoven, Rzewski. All three of these composers have provided the piano with a monumental variations cycle. These works have all proven important companions to the fledgling artistic career of the pianist Igor Levit. On his new album, which will be released through Sony Classical, he has placed these variations side by side. Qobuz tracked Levit down at the legendary Funkhaus recording studio in Berlin, where the artist has been putting his new work to tape. In this interview, he talks about his friendship with the composer Frederic Rzewski, the importance of the Funkhaus, and his own experiences with Hi-Res music…!
