It was eight years ago, the 10 of August 2008, that the incomparable songwriter, arranger, and velvet-voiced singer Isaac Hayes died. At the age of 65 the self-proclaimed Black Moses had composed for Atlantic and then Stax, before launching a career under his own name, which found its musical inspiration in 60s soul and a unique kind of groove that strays on the funky side. The height of his success came in the shape of the Shaft soundtrack: wah wah pedal, urban horns, cinema style strings, it's still a must-listen today.
