The Kyle Asche Organ Trio

Following in the tradition of his predecessors, jazz guitarist Kyle Asche has been steadfast in maintaining a soul-jazz style that has continued to be popular into the 2000s. Born in 1979 in Columbus, NE, Asche was fortunate to hear recordings by such legends as Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, and George Benson. While in his mid-teens he was part of a master class conducted by Russell Malone that initially inspired him to become a professional guitarist. He attended Northern Illinois University from 1997 to 2001, studying with contemporary jazz guitarist Fareed Haque and crossing paths with Chicagoans Bobby Broom, Henry Johnson, and Mike Allemana, while also admiring the New York-based Peter Bernstein. It was in 1998 that Asche officially became a member of the Chicago jazz scene, playing primarily organ combo music and performing at the Green Mill, the Hot House, Andy's, Pops for Champagne, and Pete Miller's. But his big break came in 2005 when he participated in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, making the semifinals and performing with Bob James and Chris Potter. Though he did not win, he started building credentials, including performing with Oscar Brown, Jr., Ari Brown, Jim Snidero, Dan Nimmer, Chris Foreman, and Kimberly Gordon. That same year his debut CD, The Hook Up, was issued by the Origin/OA2 label. Asche's follow-up, Blues for Mel, arrived in 2009 on the Tippin' label, as he worked in collaboration with veteran organist Mel Rhyne and drummer George Fludas.
