Stage Dolls
This melodic power-trio emerged from Trondheim, Norway. Formed in 1983, the original line-up comprised Torstein Flakne (vocals, guitar, ex-Kids), Terje Storli (bass) and Erlend Antonson (drums, ex-Subway Sect), the latter eventually replaced by Steinar Krokstad. Their three albums combine high-tech production with superbly crafted AOR, the songs heavily infused with melody and a keen sense of dynamics. ‘Love Cries’, lifted as a single from their self-titled 1988 album, became a minor US hit in 1989. On the strength of this, they secured the support slots on the Blue Murder and Warrant USA tours the same year, but failed to build on the initial momentum.
