Lori Lieberman

Lori Lieberman is best known for the hit song, “Killing Me Softly” which is based on her poem detailing her experience at the Troubadour in Los Angeles back in the early 70’s.  She was the first to record the song on her debut album for Capitol Records and was the featured artist on American Airlines’ in-flight listening program, where Roberta Flack first heard the song. Roberta Flack’s recording earned her two Grammys that year, and the song has been recorded over the years by an unlimited number of well-known artists, including the Fugees.

Over the past five decades, Lori Lieberman has remained in the spotlight, gleaning the respect of an industry and a devoted base of fans. She has recorded over 18 albums and has toured worldwide, including twice to sold-out audiences at Carnegie Hall, and the noted Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Lori grew up in Switzerland, one of three sisters, surrounded by musical influences that included Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Dionne Warwick, to name a few. She moved to Los Angeles, signed with Capitol Records, and toured with Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel, Kenny Rankin, Randy Newman and many others.  She has been accompanied on her recordings by remarkable artists like Larry Carlton, Dean Parks, Paulinho DaCosta, Matt Rollings, and Lyle Workman, among others, superstars in their own right.

As one of the industries’ most prolific songwriters, Lori has continued to record for nearly five decades and has worked with the most talented songwriters in the US and internationally. Her collaborations with songwriters and artists in the Netherlands led to two highly reviewed bodies of work: Ready for the Storm and The Girl and The Cat with the noted Matangi Quartet from the Netherlands. Her recent entry into singing the American Songbook with a stellar jazz quartet accompaniment keeps Lori as current an influence as ever as a true American treasure.
