Don't be fooled by the name on the front; this is actually Hawkwind (1995 edition) trying a run down the ambient techno road -- actually, the end result is more techno than ambient, verging on thundering rave velocities more often than it wanders into Orb sleepy noodling territory. There's no real attempt to hide the fact that it's Hawkwind -- the trademark musical structures and Brock guitarisms fly out of the mix everywhere. Taken as a whole entity, White Zone veers between interestingly hypnotic and remarkably annoying -- Hawkwind fans are as likely to be confused by this one as the average man in the CD supermarket.
