Released as the Cars were slowly breaking up, Ric Ocasek's second solo album This Side of Paradise was an attempt to establish himself as a viable commercial solo artist, and while a few songs -- such as the single "Emotion in Motion" -- are hypnotic and melodic, most of the songs fall flat, falling prey to weak melodies or labored production.
