By the time the second album by the Boys arrived in stores, the new jack swing movement was in full force. With groups like Bell Biv DeVoe leading the way, and dozens of new artists flooding the R&B/pop market, it was difficult for the Boys to follow up their debut album with greater success. However, this eponymous release has its moments of bubblegum R&B goodness, especially with the moderately successful chart hit "Crazy." For better or worse, the formula that made the first album so accessible remains unchanged, save for the overly indulgent "interludes" that precede nearly every track on the album. With L.A. Reid and Babyface resigned to minimal production roles, the magic simply wasn't as present the second time around.
