In 1987, the track Heroes And Heroines closed Hometown Girl, the first album from a new folk & country singer named Mary Chapin Carpenter. 30 years later, the New Jersey native presents to us Sometimes Just The Sky, a story from the same mould. Produced by Ethan Jones and recorded in Real World Studios by Peter Gabriel in Bath, England. This disc is in fact exclusively made up of old tracks, sometimes beyond recognition, that she took from her vast repertoire of twelve works. It’s all in a way that underlines their timelessness. Mary Chapin Carpenter never makes waves, never raises the tone. On the contrary, it’s with the proximity of her voice and with the simple things of everyday life that she is capable of really touching her audience. And obviously in the class of her composing. © Clotilde Maréchal/Qobuz

In your panoramas...
The Past, Present and Future of Black Country Artists

For decades, country music has been largely shut off to Black artists. There have been notable, even iconic, exceptions throughout history, of course. But there are too few of those, to the point that their success was often treated as novelty. There were also too many performers who should have made it big but were forced into stereotypes that didn't comfortably fit. Fortunately, there have been signs of hope in the past few years—hope that feels like a lot more than just good intentions and lip service. This tribute explores the history, and promising future, of Black artists in country music.

Johnny Cash Behind Bars

Two legendary live albums released at the end of the sixties gave Johnny Cash’s career a huge boost and turned him into an international star. They were two records were unlike any others: they were recorded in prison. But how did the Man in Black find himself in such an unusual concert hall?

10 Legends of the Blues

For over a century, blues is still nourishing pop music of all kinds and producing great records. It's time to take a look back at the classics with ten historic blues musicians.
