If Outo Elämä put YUP's feet back on the ground, then Normaalien Maihinnousu definitely is a new power-up for this ultra-energized rock band. The title track may have the most attractive riff that YUP have recorded to date, and the song certainly is a great treat. YUP have always succeeded to move freely around different music styles, and Maihinnousu surely is a culmination point. The first half is basically distortion-guitar-driven, but the second one is mainly based on acoustic guitars, Tiainen's great keyboards, and producer Riku Mattila's unbelievable ears. Even the most experimental songs sound great with their smooth and relaxing feel (e.g., the acoustic "Kuinka Ihmistä Käsitellään" or the faster "Kiusauksien Iltapäivä"). Even though there are some pop songs like "Varjoleikit" and "Meitä Odotellaan Mullan Alla," Maihinnousu is still pure rock, and an album that is hard to beat. And maybe the best one that YUP has done to date.
