This CD is part of RCA Victor's extensive but erratic introduction to jazz series. Glenn Miller had so many hits that it would be impossible to fit them on just one CD. Strangely enough, three of the 15 numbers included on this release ("When You Wish Upon a Star," "Moon Love," and "King Porter Stomp") were not big sellers, making the title a bit pointless. The famous renditions of such numbers as "In the Mood," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "A String of Pearls," and "Little Brown Jug" are among this CD's highlights, but there are better organized "greatest-hits" Glenn Miller collections than this one readily available.

In your panoramas...
Lee Morgan, Breathless

Lee Morgan’s story is full of highs (in his records) and lows (in his personal life). Born in 1938, he was one of the greatest trumpeters on the Blue Note label. He enjoyed a dazzling career where he walked amongst the giants of jazz, although it was tragically cut short in 1972 by his ex-wife’s gun…

Blue Note in 10 Albums

The most famous of all jazz labels had it all! Five-star artists, original repertoires, ingenious associate artistic directors, exceptional sound recording, sublime album covers, a variety of genres (Bebop, Hard Bop, Soul Jazz, Modal Jazz, Free Jazz)… The label was launched in 1939 by Francis Wolff and Alfred Lion, two Germans who had fled the Nazi regime, and had everything going for it. Qobuz has picked 10 key albums from its ample catalogue. Some of them are celebrated classics. Others are underrated marvels. But all of them played a vital role in shaping Blue Note as a label.

Bill Evans in 10 Albums

Without him, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau and a few thousand other jazz pianists would play differently. More than forty years after his death, the legacy of Bill Evans hasn’t lost any of its influence. On the contrary, it is difficult to sort through his bottomless discography without finding even an incidental recording that doesn’t tower above 90% of the competition. Here are 10 of his albums, subjectively selected…
