Ted When

Nashville-based singer, songwriter, producer, and musician Ted When led the Los Angeles-based group Mansions on the Moon before making his solo debut with the 2020 single "Edge Off," an airy yet propulsive blend of ethereal vocals and intricate beats. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ted Wendler formed Mansions on the Moon while living in Los Angeles in 2010. The group's unique blend of dream pop, EDM, and hip-hop caught the attention of Diplo, who co-presented their 2010 mixtape Paradise Falls along with DJ Benzi, and the Neptunes' Pharrell Williams, who executive produced the band's first EP, 2012's Lightyears. The group also toured with Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, and remixed songs by Foster the People and Zee Avi. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2014, and the band guested on Fred Falke's 2016 single "It's a Memory." Wendler eventually moved to Nashville and wrote the atmospheric, Casio-driven synth pop song "Edge Off" about his struggles with substance abuse and isolation. Co-produced by Zack Sekoff (collaborator with Vince Staples and Thundercat), the 2020 single launched the former frontman's solo career as Ted When.
