Paco Sala

Paco Sala are a duo whose dreamy, lo-fi abstract pop songs are influenced by Italo-disco, trip-hop, contemporary R&B, juke/footwork, and other styles. The project was started by London-based Antony Harrison during the early 2010s, as he was starting to retire his glitchy experimental ambient moniker Konntinent. The first Paco Sala release, Radial Sundown, was a limited cassette on Digitalis that included a guest appearance by Félicia Atkinson, and contained more of a sci-fi soundtrack influence than his work as Konntinent. Harrison then began working with Berlin-based vocalist Leyli (Marie-Pascale Hardy), who sang on Paco Sala's proper debut LP, Ro-Me-Ro. Also released by Digitalis, the album received praise from several indie and electronic music publications such as FACT and Ad Hoc. Following another experimental limited cassette (2013's The Fog), Hardy changed her pseudonym to Birch, and the duo released their second LP, 2014's Put Your Hands on Me. The album brought the melodies and beats into sharper focus while still retaining the dreamy qualities of their earlier work. After Digitalis became inactive, Paco Sala moved to Night School for the release of their third full-length, 2015's Der Gast. In 2016, Home Normal issued Rough Imaginary, a split release featuring tracks by Paco Sala as well as ISAN, A New Line (Related), and R. Elizabeth. Later in the year, the duo moved to German label Denovali Records with an EP titled Ko Yo. The full-length The Silent Season followed in 2017.
