British-Nigerian musician Klein produces an utterly unique, surreal blend of R&B and experimental electronics, layering rich, sensuous vocals with deconstructed samples, glitches, glacial drones, and occasional bursts of noise. Spending her youth in both South London and Nigeria, she grew up listening to pop, rock, and gospel, and never envisioned becoming a musician as a child, but she gradually began making music as a hobby. After appearing on a track by Bianca Scout in 2015, Klein digitally self-released her debut full-length, Only, in 2016. The album became a word-of-mouth success among listeners of experimental music, and was eventually released on vinyl and USB stick by Howling Owl Records and on CD by P-Vine Records. The digital EPs Bondage 007 and Lagata also appeared during the year. In 2017, Klein guested on Laurel Halo's Dust album, released by Kode9's Hyperdub. The label then signed Klein and issued her Tommy EP in September.
