Jefferson
b. Geoff Turton, 11 March 1944, Birmingham, England. A one-time toolmaker, Turton found fame in the mid-60s as singer in the Rockin’ Berries before quitting for a solo career in the autumn of 1968. A self-confessed ‘penniless bum’, Turton relaunched himself as Jefferson and enjoyed a flurry of fame with the 1969 hit ‘Colour Of My Love’, written by Paul Ryan. The transition into a 70s star failed to materialize although Jefferson did enjoy some success in the USA where ‘Baby Take Me In Your Arms’ reached the Top 30. After playing on the USA college circuit, he returned to the UK in 1972 but failed to avoid the one-hit-wonder tag in his own country.
