The third single from Madonna's electronic Ray of Light album was the melancholy ballad "The Power of Good-Bye," which was only released as a two-track single in the U.S., but as a maxi-single with three remixes overseas. The mixes on the maxi-single take awhile to sink in, but once they do, they take a life of their own. "Dallas' Low End Mix," remixed by R&B maestro Dallas Austin, recalls the hip-hop beeps and blips utilized in TLC's futuristic Fan Mail album. "Luke Slater's Super Luper" turns the ballad into a thumping deep house anthem, making it sound like a completely different song (which could have been titled "Come Freedom"). Madonna's recorded vocal sample is looped continuously over the relentless dance beat, and none of the original lyrics or chorus, which would identify the song as "The Power of Good-Bye," are present in this version (which is not a bad thing). The final mix, "Fabien's Good God Mix," is an electronic, tripped-out, drum'n'bass-heavy mix which keeps the integrity of the original song. This is a fun single that, unfortunately, never saw the light of day in the New World, and that's what probably kept the song from making the Top Ten (it petered out at 11).
