Cuánto camino recorrido por el pionero de la música electrónica francesa tras su salida del laboratorio sonoro GRM de Pierre Schaeffer –padre de las músicas concreta y electroacústica–, donde pasaría dos años (de 1969 a 1971) que se revelarían decisivos para lo que vendría a continuación. Después de cincuenta años, durante los cuales ha iniciado a toda una generación en la música electrónica y se ha convertido en el artista galo más internacional, Jean-Michel Jarre vuelve a revisitar su abundante discografía en este recopilatorio, Planet Jarre, que reúne 41 temas divididos en cuatro partes.
El primero de los discos contiene, como indica su título, Soundscapes, paisajes sonoros, piezas contemplativas al límite del ambient como la melancólica The Heart of Noise (The Origin), así como dos extractos del tercer volumen de Oxygène, publicado en 2016, las Part 19 y 20. En el segundo, Themes, Jarre ha agrupado sus composiciones más «pegadizas», esencialmente producidas durante los años 70 y 80 (a excepción de Bells y Chronology, Pt. 4), como el famoso Oxygene, Part. 4, el moroderiano Equinoxe Part 5 y el icónico Fourth Rendez-vous. El disco 3, Séquences, se concentra en sus temas más «hipnóticos», desde Arpegiateur de 1982 al psytrance de Exit, escrito con Edward Snowden en 2016, así como el muy bailable Oxygène 8, extraído del álbum Oxygène 7-13 de 1997.
Este Séquences se refuerza con dos títulos inéditos, Herbalizer y Opening Coachella, registrados durante su actuación en el prestigioso festival californiano. Por último el disco 4, Explorations & Early Works, es quizá el más interesante del lote puesto que incluye dos minutos de Music for Supermarkets, álbum de 1983 y del que solo se editó ¡una única copia! Pero también cortes como ese tenso Roseland (Le Pays de rose) escrito en 1973 para el film Les Granges brûlées (con Delon y Signoret) y, sobre todo, La Cage, tema compuesto en 1969 en el GRM con una sierra musical, una carraca, una cuchara de madera y un sintetizador (junto a su cara B Erosmachine, con sus ruidos de muelles). Dos absolutas rarezas de las que solo se prensaron 117 copias (!) y que ayudan a entender el camino recorrido… © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
