Desde Inside In/Inside Out, de 2006, The Kooks han acunado a gran número de adolescentes rebeldes. Pero doce años después, la banda de Luke Pritchard se ha hecho mayor. Su quinto álbum supone seguramente la primera ruptura con su imagen tradicional. Indie rock con influencias folk, pop y punk bubble-gum, Let’s Go Sunshine no sigue el camino de su antecesor, Listen, ganando en matices. En este disco The Kooks se han propuesto librar su particular carrera contra el tiempo y, atacados por la nostalgia, encontrar un equilibrio entre la energía y el abatimiento, centrándose en temas como las relaciones humanas o la inteligencia emocional. La tensión va en aumento tema tras tema ayudada por la guitarra de Hugh Harris, el bajo de Peter Denton y los ritmos salvajes de Alexis Nunez a la batería. El álbum es, indudablemente, sólido. No excesivamente original, pero sí sólido, estimulante y enternecedor. Initials for Gainsbourg, bello llamado al amor pese a su ligera sobreproducción, contrasta adecuadamente con el rock agreste de Pamela. The Kooks tampoco se olvidan de confeccionar canciones donde los violines son bienvenidos (Picture Frame), para terminar con sonoridades más suaves que invitan al disfrute del buen tiempo estival (No Pressure).
