Like penny candy, the male-recording duo is virtually extinct. Once popular, not many are around these days, only Men at Large comes to mind. You once had: Marvin & Johnny, Don & Juan, Sam & Dave, Santo & Johnny, Sam & Bill, Johnnie & Jack, Two Friends, etc. A James & Bobby Purify act still performs due to the popularity of "I'm Your Puppet" an infectious, loping ballad. This sparkling debut, recorded at the Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, overflows with blue-plate specials. Relish purifying renditions of the Nightingales' sermonizing "I Got Everything I Need," Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long," and Maurice & Mac's "You Left the Water Running." Gritty originals "Wish You Didn't Have to Go," "So Many Reasons," and "Blame Me (Don't Blame My Heart)," hold their own too.
