A diferencia de otros fenómenos adolescentes, los Backstreet Boys no tratan de disimular el paso del tiempo y parecen orgullosos de celebrar sus veinte años de carrera, convenciendo incluso a Kevin Richardson de volver al grupo para realizar un tour, un documental y In A World Like This, el séptimo álbum de la banda. El disco confirma la reciente evolución del conjunto, que en los últimos tiempos ha ido progresivamente alejándose del dance-pop y prefiriendo en cambio el género de balada contemporánea. Además de volver a trabajar con Max Martin, el grupo alista también a Morgan Taylor Reid y sobretodo a Martin Terefe, quien hace valer su experiencia como productor de cantautores (Jason Mraz, Ron Sexsmith, James Morrison, KT Tunstall) y termina aportando los momentos más destacados del disco, como "Try" o "Trust Me".
