Algunas parejas legendarias de músicos, en dúos mixtos, han dejado su huella en la historia de la música popular. Basta con pronunciar sus nombres para que los ojos de muchos aficionados brillen de inmediato: Sonny & Cher, Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg, Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Les Paul & Mary Ford, She & Him... Hoy, un nuevo tándem inesperado entra en escena, ¡y su entrada es saludada por un Qobuzissime! Por un lado, una leyenda del rock de los años dorados que sale de su caparazón de vez en cuando: Paul Simonon, antiguo bajista de los Clash (es decir, ¡el protagonista de la portada de London Calling!) y, más recientemente, miembro de The Good, The Bad and The Queen junto a Damon Albarn, (el difunto) Tony Allen y Simon Tong. Al otro lado encontramos a Galen Ayers, hija del genial Kevin Ayers, el excéntrico británico cofundador de Soft Machine y figura destacada de la escena prog y psicodélica de Canterbury... Sin embargo, el álbum que acaban de grabar juntos está a años luz de sus currículos personales. Desde las primeras notas de Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day?, Galen y Paul juegan la carta del álbum narrativo, del paseo sencillo -pero nunca simplista- por estilos, paisajes y territorios. Visceralmente cosmopolita, incluso europeo (cantan en inglés, pero también en español), se trata de un álbum con mucha clase, en su desenfado y su vibración de cantante callejero. Con sus aromas de mariachi, sus sonidos de reggae y el espíritu desenfadado de la música de variedades italiana y francesa de los años 60, el álbum de Galen & Paul es retro sin parecer anticuado, irónico sin ser trillado y poético sin caer en los tópicos. En medio del Yin / Yang de sus dos voces, el dúo cuenta con el apoyo de músicos impecables (el guitarrista Simon Tong, el batería de jazz Seb Rochford y Dan Donovan a los teclados) y de Tony Visconti, productor de Bowie, habitualmente más acostumbrado a discos de "gran sonido" o incluso faraónicos. Por último, para añadir más color, Damon Albarn toca su melódica en algunos temas. En los apenas 38 minutos de Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day?, Paul Simonon y Galen Ayers nos llevan alrededor del mundo.
