Sukhbir Singh
Sukhbir – born Sukhbir Singh on November 9, 1969, in Jalandhar, Punjab, India – is an acclaimed Bhangra singer who has earned the nickname ‘Prince of Bhangra.’ His music is a mixture of traditional Bhangra, reggae, rap, and techno. Sukhbir can sing in nine different languages including Punjabi, Hindi, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Swahili, Although born in Jalandhar, his family relocated to Nairobi, Kenya when he was three. Growing up in Nairobi, he began to learn to play several musical instruments. Although he originally focused on a career in IT, he was eventually convinced by a Kenyan businessman to pursue a profession in music. After singing at many private functions, Sukhbir moved to London, England in 1991, where he began his recording career. The following year, he moved to Dubai, India and after several years of performing, he released his debut album, New Stylee, in 1996. The album was a success and won three awards – Best Debut Album, Best Music Video, and Best Male Vocalist – at the Channel V Awards in 1996. A year later, he released the album Gal Ban Gayee, which was certified platinum. By 2000, he had become so popular that he released an album titled after his nickname, Prince of Bhangra Volume 1. In 2001, he released the hit album Dil Kare, which featured the hit singles “Girls Girls Girls,” “Nachle Sonye,” and the title track. Further albums include Di Laga Na (2006), Ni Hogaya Re Pyar Soniye (2012), Oh Ho Ho Ho (2017), Nachdi (2021), and Billi Billi (2023), which features the title track taken from the film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
