MIAMIGO
Brighton, U.K. duo Miamigo drew inspiration from the darker, more atmospheric side of the '80s. They cited New Order, Duran Duran, and Michael Jackson as influences, as well as channeling the essence of classic John Carpenter soundtracks. Though their lyrics were reminiscent of the '80s, the vocals maintained a relatively modern pop sensibility. They heavily utilized the Korg M1 synthesizer to achieve the sound and textures found within their music. Although Miamigo had been making music together in London for over 10 years, it wasn't until 2015 that they moved to Brighton and began to share their work with the public. June saw the release of their debut EP Hard to Love, which was followed by the Soda Lime Love EP in November. Both EPs were recorded in their home studio and released via their own label Indian Hop Recordings. What I Want, the first single from the second EP, made it onto the BBC Radio 1 Introducing playlist in the latter half of 2015.
