Luke Grimes
An actor who first made waves in the Fifty Shades of Grey series and later came to fame as a regular on the neo-Western Yellowstone, Luke Grimes launched a musical career by styling himself as an earthy troubadour in the vein of Zach Bryan and Turnpike Troubadours. "No Horse to Ride," his first single, arrived in early 2022 and appeared on his debut EP, Pain Pills or Pews, the following year.
The son of a Pentecostal pastor, Luke Grimes was born on January 21, 1984, in Dayton, Ohio. He grew up singing and playing music in church, learning guitar, piano, and drums. After his high school graduation, he headed to New York City to study acting and play with his alt-country band Mitchell's Folly. He received his first role in 2006, appearing in the horror film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Two years later, Mitchell's Folly released their debut album, Whirlwind, but acting soon overshadowed music for Grimes.
In 2009, he was cast in a regular role on the fourth season of Brothers & Sisters, which in turn led to a part in Taken 2 in 2021 and six episodes of the vampire soap opera True Blood in 2013. Clint Eastwood cast Grimes as Marc Lee in his hit 2014 adaptation of American Sniper. The next year, Grimes landed the role of Elliot Grey in Sam Taylor-Johnson's adaptation of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, a part he reprised in the sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades of Freed.
Grimes became part of the main cast of Taylor Sheridan's modern-day Western Yellowstone in 2018, staying with the show as it steadily increased in popularity in the early 2020s. Yellowstone helped him open up a secondary career as a country singer. He signed with UMG Nashville, releasing "No Horse to Ride" in December 2022. Grimes kicked off 2023 with two more singles, "Burn" and "Hold On," both appearing on the EP Pain Pills or Pews later that September.
