Hembree
Hailing from the American Midwest, Hembree's atmospheric indie dance-rock is both anxious and infectious. After their single "Holy Water" was featured on a Super Bowl ad in 2018, the band released their full-length debut, House on Fire, in 2019.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Hembree is led by songwriter Isaac Flynn (vocals/guitar), a transplant from Lawrence, Kansas bands including Quiet Corral, Brothers in Moab, and Middle Twin. He founded the band with Eric Davis (keyboards/synths), Garrett Childers (guitar/vocals), Matt Green (bass), and Jim Barnes (drums), all also former members of Quiet Corral. Hembree made their recording debut with the self-released EP New Oasis in early 2015, the same year their song "Can't Run Forever" appeared on streaming sites, collecting tens of thousands of streams. The band took a brief step back to develop their sound and work on their live show, re-emerging on the Ribbon Music label with the EP Had It All in mid-2017. That year, they opened shows for acts including Elvis Costello, Phoenix, Cold War Kids, and JR JR. In the meantime, Green and Barnes left the group, Childers moved to bass, and Hembree completed their lineup with brothers Alex (guitar) and Austin Ward (drums).
In January 2018, Hembree were featured by NPR's Slingshot, a series dedicated to emerging artists, and a month later, their single "Holy Water" appeared in an ad for smart speakers that ran during the Super Bowl. It also aired during shows including Monday Night Football. Later that year, the band toured Europe for the first time and signed with the Thirty Tigers label. Their debut album, House on Fire, followed in April 2019. It was produced by Had It All's Eric Hillman (Foreign Fields, Matthew and the Atlas).
