Emerson
Not exactly one of Neat Records' most astute signings, glammed-up hard rockers Emerson took their name from siblings Stu (guitar) and Bri Emerson, who founded the group in the north English town of Tyneside with vocalist Sam Blewitt (surely some mistake!), keyboardist Dru Irving, and drummer Jon Sellers. In fact, one can safely presume that it was their base of operation -- the very same as this notorious New Wave of British Heavy Metal label -- not their musical inclination, that explains this unlikely and, ultimately, not very successful liaison. In any case, at least there's solace in the fact that Emerson's underwhelming recorded output was limited to but one 1983 single, the synth-laden "Something Special" (b/w "Stars in Hollywood") -- after which they conveniently vanished from sight. Of note, singer Blewitt later turned up in Samson.
