Devin Townsend
Né en Colombie Britannique en 1972, le musicien canadien Devin Townsend s'impose auprès d'une partie significative du public rock en apportant sa voix et ses textes au Sex & Religion de Steve Vai, très attendu successeur à son Passion & Warfare de 1990. Dès 1994, Strapping Young Lad, son projet metal industriel monté en 1994, contribue à alimenter sa réputation d'original et de travailleur acharné et à partir de 1997, Townsend s'affaire à brouiller les frontières entre les genres avec une série de travaux à son nom et avec le Devin Townsend Project, multipliant les albums concepts et égrainant quelques pièces maîtresses du genre comme Biomech (1997), Terria (2001), le farfelu Ziltoid the Omniscient (2007) ou encore Addicted (2009). En 2019, c'est en solo que Townsend revient avec Empath.
