Boy 8-Bit
Boy 8-Bit is a British electro producer who began to make waves in the late 2000s with EP releases such as The Suspense Is Killing Me (2008) on Mad Decent and Baltic Pine (2009) on This Is Music. Born David Morris and hailing from South London, England, he cites a diversity of influences that range from French electro (e.g., Daft Punk, Justice) and British drum'n'bass (e.g., Dillinja, Ed Rush) to Italian horror film soundtracks (e.g., Goblin, Claudio Simonetti) and New York rap (e.g., Wu-Tang Clan, Eric B. & Rakim). Boy 8-Bit made his commercial production debut in 2005 with "Turboloader," a track featured on Body Clap Sampler 1, a various-artists EP released by Touché on his Body Clap Records label. He first made waves a few years later with The Suspense Is Killing Me (2008), an EP released by Diplo on his Mad Decent label. Baltic Pine (2009), a four-track EP released on This Is Music, also made waves. In addition to his production output, Boy 8-Bit is a prolific remixer whose output includes numerous collaborations with Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records label. He first worked with the label in 2004, when he remixed Touché's "Girl's a Freak." He later remixed Southern Friend Records releases such as Armand Van Helden's "When the Lights Go Down," Cagedbaby's "Disco Biscuit," Gauzz's "Abracadabra (Round 'n' Round)," and Phunk Electric's "Video Games Crash." Boy 8-Bit also posted a steady stream of DJ mixes for free download on his personal blog, a variety of mixes that range from horror film music to Street Sounds Electro compilation inclusions.
