Addy
Richmond, Virginia's Addy represents the work of singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Adam Watkins, whose low-key bedroom pop traverses folk, indie pop, and a light dusting of alt-country. After a pair of self-released EPs, Watkins expanded the project into a full-band on 2020's lush and introspective full-length Eclipse.
A home recordist with a penchant for experimentation, Watkins released his first EP, Re Call, in 2017. On it, Addy's thoughtful musings on heartbreak, hope, and friendship were swathed in dreamy ambience and ethereal synth textures, while gentle acoustic guitars and banjos plucked away in the periphery. A year later he released the slightly more focused Rose Eyes EP, which added elegant chamber pop strings into Addy's mix. Signing with Top Shelf Records, Watkins brought additional collaborators into the band and recorded the group's full-length debut. Released in early 2020, Eclipse was Addy's most confident and ambitious release yet, with a lush chamber pop sound and nods to wistful country and folk music.
