Willie Sugarcapps

Willie Sugarcapps is a Gulf Coast collaborative project made up of singers and songwriters Will Kimbrough, the duo Sugarcane Jane (Savana Lee and Anthony Crawford), Grayson Capps, and Corky Hughes. The group's individual members are spread out from Nashville to Alabama. They first played together at Frog Pond, Blue Moon Farm in Silverhill, Alabama, a small town that takes its local music -- and musicians -- seriously. After a couple of get-togethers, the group decided to finance and record its debut. They enlisted Grammy-winning engineer Trina Shoemaker to co-produce, engineer, and mix. All ten songs were cut in a single, live, eight-hour stretch on the dogtrot of Crawford's and Lee's home in Loxley, Alabama, with each musician picking up whatever instrument felt appropriate to the tune being recorded. The finished product, simply titled Willie Sugarcapps, was released by Royal Potato Family in August of 2013. A few years later, the group reconvened to record a second album at FAME Studios with producer Trina Shoemaker. The resulting Paradise Right Here appeared in April 2016.
