Sofia Reyes
Mexico's Sofía Reyes is a vibrant multilingual pop vocalist with a bent toward mixing dance-oriented pop, reggaeton, and R&B. She initially garnered attention with the song "Sólo Yo" featuring Prince Royce before cracking the Top Ten of the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart with her 2017 debut LP Louder! Reyes scored a platinum hit single with 2019's "R.I.P." featuring Rita Ora and Anitta, and she returned to the Top 20 of the Latin charts with 2022's Mal de Amores and parsed the wreckage of a tumultuous breakup on 2023's Milamores.
Born Úrsula Sofía Reyes Piñeyro in 1995 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Reyes began singing and playing piano around age ten. Two years later, she was writing songs with her father and uploading cover songs to YouTube. Her videos captured the attention of singer/producer Prince Royce, who signed her to his D'Leon Records imprint. In 2013 she released her first single, "Forever Now" featuring rapper/singer/actor Khleo Thomas. A year later, Reyes returned with the song "Muévelo" featuring rapper Wisin. Reyes released two more singles in 2016, "Sólo Yo"/"Nobody But Me" (once again featuring Prince Royce) and "Llegaste Tú" (featuring Reykon), while also making guest appearances on releases by Cash Cash ("How to Love") and Spencer Ludwig ("Diggy").
Reyes' long-awaited debut album, Louder!, arrived in early 2017 on Warner Music Latina and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart. Included on the album were several of her previously released singles, including "Muévelo," "Sólo Yo," and "Llegaste Tú." Also that year, she picked up a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The next year, she issued "Vamos por la Estrella" with Paty Cantú and Kap G. The buoyant single was written for the Mexican national soccer team and their entry in the 2018 World Cup.
The vibrant, trilingual single "R.I.P." appeared in early 2019 and saw Reyes team up with U.K. singer/actress Rita Ora and Brazilian pop superstar Anitta. The song reached the Top Ten in Mexico and hit number 19 on Billboard's Hot Latin Song Chart. It also won a Latin American Music Award and a LOS40 Music Award. In addition, she joined Thallía and Farina on 2020's "Tick Tock." In 2022, Reyes released her sophomore full-length, Mal de Amores, which debuted at number 15 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums Chart. It was buoyed by the title track collaboration with Becky G, itself a Top Ten Latin Pop platinum hit. The album also spawned several Top 30 hits in Mexico, including "Casualidad" with Pedro Capó and "Marte" with María Becerra. The full-length Milamores arrived in 2023 and saw Reyes rebuilding and reinventing after a traumatic breakup. The healing set included features from Danna Paola, Gera MX, and Mariah Angeliq.
