Silver Sphere
Dwelling in the spectrum between dreamy bedroom pop and bubbly electronic pop, Silver Sphere emerged in the late 2010s with a series of self-recorded songs about heartbreak and teen life. Making fans of former bedroom recordists and apparent influences Frankie Cosmos and Clairo, she presented her first album, yikes!, as a college student in 2019.
Sophie Cates, better known as Silver, shared the lush, self-produced breakup song "Darling Don't" under the moniker Silver Sphere in 2017. Continuing to write and record confessional songs with a distinctly youthful point of view in her dorm room at Chicago's Columbia College, she returned with tracks including "drinking games" and "sucks 4 u." They were both included on her debut album, yikes!, when it arrived on Human Re Sources in October 2019. An EP, all my boyfriends, arrived in September 2020 and included the track "ghosts!"
