Kimberley Chen
Born to Malaysian parents on May 23, 1994 in Australia, Kimberley Chen became a successful child model who appeared in television advertisements. At the age of nine she was cast as a model on an Australian version of the game show The Price Is Right. In 2005 she segued into a theatrical career, playing Young Nala in The Lion King, then played the role again one year later in a Shanghai production. A performance of the Australian national anthem at the 2007 Aussie rules football Grand Cup Final brought her even greater national exposure. She began her recording career in 2009 working with established musicians like Gordon Chambers, and opened for Kelly Clarkson when the American Idol champion played Taiwan. Chen’s debut album, Kimberley, was released in 2012 just a few weeks shy of her 18th birthday. A mix of songs performed in English and Mandarin, the album contained two hit singles, “Love You” and “Herself”. Her follow-up, Kimbonomics, came out Christmas day, 2013, and continued in the same Mandopop style. 2017’s #Tag Me, marked major changes for the singer. She switched record labels, and explored a more dance-oriented sound on the album’s title track.
