Jamey Aebersold
Despite a lack of notoriety, multi-instrumentalist Jamey Aebersold has compiled a huge recorded legacy since the mid-'60s. Aebersold has recorded on alto sax, bass and piano, and many of his releases have stressed themes, particularly compositions by jazz giants. He might be better known as a teacher, label owner and operator of a mail-order service Double-Time Records. JA Records has been in business since the '70s, with dates focusing on works written by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker and others, plus sessions highlighting movements, Aebersold's compositions or styles. Aebersold's best, or at least most exciting instrument, is alto, where he demonstrates good facility and technique. His piano and bass playing are not as accomplished, though still competent. He has more than 50 titles on album and disc listed.
