Ed Bennett
Born in 1951, Ed Bennett began playing string bass when he was just 12 years old. He studied with Nat Gangursky, and started playing in a Dixieland band while a teenager. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and began touring with Jimmy Witherspoon in 1974 after he graduated. During the '70s, Bennett recorded with Carmen McRae, the Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band, Keith Barry and Kelly Broadway. His first album as a leader, The Ed Bennett Trio, appeared on the Vision label. Two subsequent albums, Blues for Hamp and In Season, have both been released by Saphu.
