Dora Morelenbaum

Brazilian music royalty from the cradle, singer and songwriter Dora Morelenbaum is the daughter of world-renowned cellist and arranger Jaques Morelenbaum and singer Paula Morelenbaum, and grew up watching her parents work with legends such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Tom Jobim. In her early twenties, Dora began studying architecture in Rio de Janeiro, but soon switched careers to Brazilian Popular Music. It was at university that Dora met Lucas Nunes and Zé Ibarra, with whom she formed Banda Dônica and began making music that married the forward-thinking attitude of early-70s MPB with lush, contemporary sounds. During the 2020 COVID lockdown, the trio was joined by Julia Mestre, and the four quarantined friends rebranded themselves as Bala Desejo. The quartet's first album, SIM SIM SIM (2022), won a Latin Grammy for Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album. All four members, however, also had solo projects going on, with Dora having released her first single, "Dó a Dó" (co-written with soon-to-become frequent collaborator Tom Veloso, son of Caetano), in 2020. Her debut full-length, the captivating Pique, arrived in 2024.
